Kirkton airfield (RAF Kirkton) was an airfield 230 kilometers north of Edinburgh.
The airfield opened on 24 August 1941, comprised of over 16 building for the servicing of aircraft. Spitfires and Whitleys started to arrive in August 1941. Upon arrival, the Spitfires were dispersed and camouflaged in Balbair wood, as the RAF regarded them as a very valuable asset.
When Havoc and Welllingtons began to arrive in June 1942, RAF Kirkton began to transform into an overflow storage facility for RAF Kinloss. From 1943 over 70 aircraft were stored at RAF Kirkton. Hoewever, when RAF Kinloss took over RAF Brackla, it began using the latter as an aircraft storage facility. RAF Kirkton was gradually relieved of its aircraft, and last used in February 1945. It was decommissioned and handed back to the public on 4 May 1945, just a few days before the war ended.

The airfield was returned to farm use. In 1983 a record was made of a watch house still being located on the site. By 2000 it had been replaced with a new built house however. Some other remaining (but abandoned) buildings can still be located on the site.
